394 soundfonts Source: http://www.hammersound.net Harvested: March 2010 There are most certainly well over 1100 sounds within this archive, since each soundfont typically has at least two or three sound banks contained in it. A soundfont is like a samplebank but uses a lot of looping and similar shortcuts to produce high-quality sounds in very small file. However, some are better made than others, so audition a sound before you get too excited about it. Soundfonts may be used in any variety of softsynth, but for Linux the popular one is Fluidsynth. For a popular and good GUI frontend to this, please see QSynth. For instructions on how to use Soundfonts with Qsynth, you may want to check out slackermedia.info or the Information Super Highway (I think they call it the "internet" now). -the Secret Order of Linux Multimedia Sprinters
